Tuesday...lots of pics today!

Math
Check out our pictures from yesterday in math!  We made   3-D shapes out of pipe cleaners and straws!  Look at all that cooperative learning happening!  Makes me very happy!  We are going to practice making 3-D shapes Thursday with our parent helper using marshmallows and toothpicks!

Mrs. Vidal
Mrs. Vidal came yesterday afternoon for our monthly guidance lesson with her.  This month the topic was careers.  Ask your child what career they want to have when they grow up!

Guest Reader
This morning Addison from Miss Records' class came to read If You Give a Pig a Pancake to us!  Addison earned this reward by earning 50+ Reading Counts points!  We were very good listeners, and Addison did a great job reading!

Sight Words
Please add the sight words: here, go, from to your practice at home.  Thanks for all your help!

Xtra Math
Don't forget to sign your child up for the free Xtra Math online account at home and start practicing addition!  When they "master" all the addition facts, the program will automatically bump them up to subtraction.  We started using this program today and they LOVED it!  I set up one computer and they have been taking turns all day going over and playing.  Great practice!

Science Night
Don't forget about the free dinner/Children's Museum Science night at Creekside tomorrow! 5:30-8pm.

Guest Day
Don't forget about Guest Day--next Wednesday, March 23rd!  Guest day will be from 1:15-2:15.  I have a couple people who haven't returned the paper yet telling me if your child will have a guest or not.  If you haven't. please let me know!  If no one can attend for your child, I need to know so I can ask another parent to pair up with them that day.  Also, if your child will be leaving as a car rider with their guest (if that's not their normal pm transportation) please write me a note next Wednesday giving your permission for that to happen.  Thanks!

Have a great week!

Have a great weekend!

Spring Picture Day
Spring Picture day is March 22.  Order forms went home in folders Tuesday! :)

Superkids' Test Results
The next test is scored and results are coming home  in folders!  As always, let me know if you have questions or concerns!

Handwriting
Lately I have been noticing a lot of handwriting errors during Superkids, Writer's Workshop, and number writing during calendar.  Please supervise your children when they are writing sight words, sentences, or number words on nightly homework.  They should never begin any of the letters or numbers on the bottom (chocolate) line, but this is what I am seeing some of them begin to do. Please ask your child to erase and remind him/her the correct way to make the letters/numbers.

Free Breakfast Day

We served 479 students a free breakfast on Thursday!  That's a new record!!!!

Carnival Basket Help

In folders today you will find a green 1/2 sheet of paper from our PTO.  The spring carnival is quickly approaching.  If you can help donate itmes for a silent auction basket, I'm sure they would greatly appreciate it.

xtra math

In folders today you will find a white sign up sheet for Xtra math.  This is a program we are going to start using at school to help with math facts and concepts, and I HIGHLY recommend signing up for a free internet account at home and letting your child play at home!  This will greatly help their math knowledge, especially with addition and subtraction facts!

Report cards come home Monday!
Please check these out in folders on Monday.  As always, let me know if you have questions or concerns.

Spring Carnival t-shirts
Spring Carnival t-shirt orders are due Monday!  PTO won't take orders after this day!

Have a great weekend!

Children's Museum Field Trip

Oh my!   We had a great day at the Children's Museum today!  THANK YOU so much to all the parents and grandparents that went to chaperone.  If you have any pictures that you took today, if you would like to, you can email them to me so I have them for our end of year celebrations.  Here are some pictures I took today:

Happy Friday!

Free Breakfast Week
On Thursday, March 10th, Creekside is celebrating National School Breakfast Week. Your child may eat school breakfast for free! The breakfast is mini cinnamon rolls, juice, fruit and milk. I need to know how many students will eat breakfast that day by Tuesday. You can either send in a note or email me if you want your child to have the free breakfast on Thursday. If your child eats a school breakfast everyday, you do not need to reply.

Spelling Bee
This afternoon we went to the annual Creekside spelling bee!  Congrats to all the 3rd and 4th grade spellers, and especially to the winner and runner up!  The class was very impressed that the "big kids" could get up in front of all those people and spell!  Many of them said they would be too nervous to do it, but a couple did tell me that they couldn't wait to try it!

Field trip---MONDAY!!
Don't forget--our field trip to the Children's Museum is MONDAY!  There is a yellow paper in folders today with all the info you need.  I am also sending home dinosaur t-shirts that students need to wear on Monday.  In short, remember 3 things:
1.  wear dinosaur t-shirt
2. wear tennis shoes
3. bring a sack lunch

Have a great weekend!

Happy Cat in the Hat day!

Dry Erase Markers
We are quickly running out of fine tip black dry erase markers.  We use them every day, sometimes more than once a day, and our supply is running low.  Any donations of these over the next couple of weeks would be greatly appreciated!  Thanks in advance.

Math
Next Tuesday we are going to begin working on a math project called "Class Collections". This is a project to teach us more about counting, keeping records, and grouping objects by 5's, and 10's. This will be an ongoing project that will last for 2-3 weeks. The class is going to be collecting Box Tops, which is great because then when our project is complete we can give all of the box tops to our PTO to get $ for our school.
Here is what I need you/your child to do:
1. Find or start collecting any Box Top that you can (at your house, neighbors, etc.)

2. Have your child count how many box tops they collect each day and write that number on a piece of paper. Please have your child also write the date on that piece of paper.
3.Put that piece of paper and the box tops in an envelope or baggie and have your child bring them in to school.
4. Repeat this process every time your child finds or collects more box tops. (Remember, this is an ongoing project so your child can bring them in more than just 1 day).
Each day we have Box Tops come in, we will add them to our collection, add up the new total, and write that information on our data sheet that we will be keeping. Thanks in advance for helping with this project. I will let you know when the project is over.

Dr. Seuss' Birthday!
We had fun celebrating today.  We made Cat in the Hat hats, Cat in the Hat Whiskers, and read the story at the end of the day.  Check out our pictures below.

Have a great day!
