Happy Halloween~almost! :)

Picture Retakes/Yearbooks
School picture retakes at Creekside are upcoming on Wednesday, November 15th. If you would like for your child’s school picture to be retaken on this day, please send back in the purchased pictures with your child to school on that day. If your child was absent on school picture day or is new to Creekside, his/her picture will automatically be taken as well. You should be receiving an order form if your child was absent or is new to Creekside since school picture day. Or, you may order online at https://inter-state.com/shop and use code 23547ZA. Any child can have their picture taken this day too if you would like to order online or send in a completed form with payment.
Some candid photos will also be taken on that day for our yearbook too.
As a reminder, if you ordered a class composite picture, those don’t come in until later into the school year.
School yearbook ordering will also happen later into the school year.

Outside Recess

Coats- Please be sure to check the temperature at recess time each day so you will know what your child needs to keep warm. We have recess at 9:45. One day this week the "feels like" temperature was only 34, and several students didn't even have a light jacket to wear. I have a few extras students can borrow, but at that temperature a heavy coat is needed. We go outside as long as the "feels like" temperature is above 25.

Reminder--Muffins With Mom
Creekside is holding its annual Muffins with Mom events on Wednesday, November 8th and on Wednesday, November 15th. These events are free. Because we believe turn-out will be large, we have two events:
  • Cub Academy, K-2 students with moms - Wednesday, November 8th from 7:00-7:30 AM
  • 3-4 students with moms - Wednesday, November 15th from 7:00-7:30 AM
Both mornings will be in our gym.
We ask that moms try to attend the event that corresponds with their child's current grade level. However, moms that have children in more than one grade may choose the event that works the best for their schedule and attend one event with their children. Also, if one event works better than the other, moms can attend either event with their son or daughter.
The menu will be muffins and fruit along with fruit juice and coffee.
Please RSVP to attend at https://goo.gl/forms/19ISJSrn9FU8eKNB2 or call 317-346-8800.
The Donuts with Dad events will be March 7th and 9th, 2018 and more info will come out on these events in early 2018.

These will be wonderful opportunities for moms to spend quality time at school sharing breakfast.

Walk A Thon t-shirt
If your child raised enough money for the Walk A Thon, they should have brought their blue walk a thon tshirt home on Friday.  We have one left--someone accidentally took two home and returned in today.  If you think your child should have brought their shirt home, and didn't, please email me as soon as possible.  I will send it home for you!

Play Field Trip
Kindergarten and first grade classes are going to the high school to see a play, Dragons Love Tacos, on Monday, November 13.  We won't be taking chaperones for this trip.  But, tomorrow in folders, you will find a permission slip for them to ride the bus to the high school.  Cost for the play ticket is $2.  Please sign and return as soon as possible.  Also, we SHOULD be back in time for lunch on this day, but in case things run late, we are asking that each child brings a sack lunch to school.  If we get back in time, we will eat in the cafeteria.  If not, we will have a picnic lunch in our room when we return.  Thanks!

Turkey Homework
Don't forget to have a little Thanksgiving fun this week for homework!  Today in folders you will find a turkey pattern.  Please help your child cut out the turkey pattern.  Then, help them disguise the turkey so he doesn’t get eaten for Thanksgiving dinner!  I would like to display these in the hallway when finished.  Be creative!  Some ideas in the past have included: princesses, hot air balloons, gumball machines, basketballs, and more!  Use materials you have at home and have fun!  Please return turkeys in green folders by November 6th, so we can complete a writing project about them and display them.  Thanks!

Book It
Don't forget to send in October book it calendars this week!  I will send the November calendar home on Thursday.

Thanksgiving Mini-Feast
Each year Kindergarten celebrates Thanksgiving by having a mini-feast together in the cafeteria.  Be on the lookout in your child's folder soon for information on when the feast will take place, what the children will need to bring in, and how you can help!

Superkids
Today we met a new Superkid!  Here are some questions you can ask your child tonight!
  • What is the name of the new Superkid character?  Lily
  • What does he like to do?  play house with her toy lions
  • What sound does Lily's name begin with?  /l/
  • What letter makes the sound /l/?  Ll

November Snack Calendar
Don’t forget when sending in snacks, please send in something for the whole class.  Please don’t send in drinks, something that requires utensils or eat, or anything that needs refrigeration.  Items like cereal, crackers, fruit snacks, and granola bars are always popular snack choices.    If you could, please send in a package of small Dixie cups with the snack, if it is not individually wrapped. We have 24 students if you send in something individually wrapped.   You do not need to send in one thing per day, just one or two big boxes of something.

Thanks for your help!

Superkids
We are working in our Sal books all week. We will be focusing on /s/ at the beginning and ending of words. We will also talk about problem/solution, rhyming words, and “slide and blend” 2-letter sounds and 3-letter words. We will finish our Sal book on Friday with the Super Smart and meet the next Superkid on Monday!  The class was very excited to realize this morning that we are halfway through meeting all the Superkids!

Writer’s Workshop
We began learning about the 6-Traits of writing today! We started with Ideas today, and will work through the remaining 5 over the next several days/weeks. We will continue building upon these traits and using them to become better writers! We also have several Superkids writing activities to do this week, including helping Sal make a poster about his “Super Sports Day.”

Math
During math this week we will continue counting to 100, look at different ways to represent numbers, learn a new game to practice reading numbers and counting 1-1, review measurement, and learn about comparing numbers. Don’t forget to keep working on the math home links for each night they are listed on the homework sheet.  Reminder-they do not need to be returned to school. The 50th day of school is on Wednesday, so we will have some fun math and writing activities on this day to celebrate!  Halfway to 100!!

Book It
Don't forget to finish up the October book it reading calendars and send those in next week!  As you finish those up, be sure to send them in.  Anyone who returns with any boxes colored in will get the free pizza certificate sent home, and a sticker on our reading chart.  I will staple the pizza hut certificate to the calendar and send it back home.  The big celebration in class will be getting the sticker on the book it chart.  All students who have at least 5 of the 6 stickers at the end of the program (end of March) will be invited to a special party with me!  Remember, this isn't mandatory, but more to promote a love of reading at home!  I'll send the November calendar home next Wednesday so you can start filling it in!

It's looking like we will have beautiful weather for our zoo trip Friday!  I will send t-shirts and a reminder home Thursday.  Please have your child wear their dolphin shirt, tennis shoes, and bring a sack lunch.  Chaperones--please meet in my classroom at 8am.  We will go over a few things and leave at 8:15.  Don't forget your lunch too and $6 to park!

Book Fair
Don't forget that the fall book fair started today!  Students can bring money to shop in the morning, or you can shop Thursday evening when you are here for your conference!

Superkids

We are finishing up Doc's unit next week.  Monday will be our read a loud lesson, Tuesday we will do the Super Smart lesson, and Wednesday, we will meet our next Superkid!  I wonder who it will be?  Monday we will also take our next progress test for unit two.  We are moving right along through these units!  If you haven't checked out the online portal at home, be sure to add that to the technology your child may be doing at home.  Right now, only the stories are open, but starting with the next unit, there will be games at home.

Fall Break

Don't forget we will not be in school October 14-22 for fall break.  Have a great time if you are going somewhere!

Conferences

You should have seen the little white slip of paper in your child's folder on Monday with the day/time of your scheduled conference.  Please keep this in a safe place and plan on attending!  We will be going over lots of info, progress, and I will be handing our your child's report card!

Field Trip

Our field trip to the zoo is Friday, October 13th.  I will send the dolphin shirt your child is to wear home on the 12th.  Your child also needs to wear walking shoes and bring a sack lunch.  If you are signed up to chaperone, don't forget your lunch as well!
