Happy Friday!

Children's Museum Night
We have an amazing, free, and fun event upcoming next Wednesday. The Creekside PTO Children's Museum Night and Dinner is Wednesday, March 15th from 5:30-8:00 PM at Creekside. We will start with FREE pizza and drinks for all, and then everyone can head to the gym to enjoy Beyond Spaceship Earth from The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis, which is described as, "Learn about life in space and discover what it is like on the International Space Station. Work with robotics and circuitry to solve challenges, all while experiencing a little bit of outer space here on Earth."
This will be a wonderful event and I hope everyone can bring their family out for a fun and free dinner and then a taste of The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis right here at Creekside!

play on Monday
Don't forget that we are going to the play at the high school Monday morning.  We will eat a "picnic" style lunch in our classroom when we return.  Each child should bring their sack lunch or lunch box to school on Monday!

homework/R.E.D. folders
Don't forget to keep signing R.E.D. folders and returning to school by Friday!  Also, when you do the nightly homework sheet, don't forget to write your child's score in the box!

guest day
Guest day in Kindergarten is Wednesday, March 22 at 1:30!  Please keep sending in papers when you know if your child will have a guest!  I am still missing about 6 forms.  I need to know if I need to find other staff members to be guests, so please let me know as soon as possible.

Report Cards
Report cards went home yesterday in folders for the 3rd 9 weeks.  They look a little different this time because of being able to put them all in PowerSchool/online.  Please look these over and let me know if you have questions or concerns!

Have a great weekend!

Rainy Start to the week!

guest day
You should have seen a green guest day paper in your child's folder yesterday.  Please fill out and return one day this week.  Kindergarten Guest day is March 22 at 1:30pm.  It is important for all students to have a guest to do the scavenger hunt with them.  If no one can attend for your child, please fill out the form with no, so I can pair them with a Creekside staff member or another parent.

spring picture day
Yesterday order forms for spring picture day went home.  If you are interested in ordering, please fill out and return to school.  Spring picture day is Tuesday, March 21.

movie night
Movie Night forms went home yesterday.  They are due by Thursday, March 16.  March movie night is Friday, March 17.

book order forms
Monday I sent home the March book order form (sorry for so many things going home yesterday!).  If you are interested in ordering any books, orders and money are due March 17.

new homework sheet
You will notice that the homework sheet has changed slightly.  We start the 4th 9 weeks this week.  I have updated the sight words part of the homework sheet to reflect the new words that we will be working on for this quarter.  I plan to make other changes to the nightly skills later in the grading period.

progress test
We took the next Superkids progress test for Units 3-4 on Friday.  As soon as I get those graded and recorded, I will send them home.  As always, please look those over and let me know if you have any questions or concerns!

sight word sticker list
In your child's folder today you will see a copy of the sight word checklist.  When students can read the word, they earn a sticker on their chart.  If there are any words on Quarter 1,2, or 3 that your child has not earned a sticker yet, please keep practicing those at home, in addition to the Quarter 4 words for homework.  Thanks for your help!

Bucketfilling
Today we filled up our bucketfilling jar with 20 fuzzies! We earn fuzzies for compliments from other teachers about behavior, 5's in specials, and everyone being on green or higher at the end of the day. The class voted this afternoon on what we want our prize to be, and they picked....STUFFED ANIMAL DAY! Please allow your child to bring a small/medium sized stuffed animal to school with them tomorrow. Thanks! Way to go bucketfillers!
Donuts with Dad
Reminder!
Creekside is holding Donuts with Dad events on Wednesday, March 8th and on Friday, March 10th. These events are free. Because we believe turn-out will be huge, we have two events:
·  K-2 students with dads - Wednesday, March 8th from 7:00-7:30 AM
·  3-4 students with dads - Friday, March 10th from 7:00-7:30 AM
Both mornings will be in our gym.  We ask that dads try to attend the event that corresponds with their child's current grade level. However, dads that have children in more than one grade can choose the event that works the best for their schedule and attend one event with their children. Also, if one event works better than the other, dads can attend either event with their son or daughter.  The menu will be donuts and fruit along with fruit juice and coffee.

End of a fun week!

R.E.D. folders
I've noticed lately that some RED reading folders are coming back unsigned.  Don't forget to read the book during the week, complete the worksheet, and SIGN the reading log.  These come home on Tuesdays, and are due back by Friday.

play permission slip/money
I have just a handful of kiddos that haven't returned their permission slip and $2 to go to the Junie B. Jones play on Monday the 13th.  These are due on Monday the 6th!  Remember on the 13th, your child will need to bring a sack lunch to school.

National School Breakfast Week
National School Breakfast Week is March 6-10.  Once again we will be offering a free breakfast to all students.  Our free breakfast is Tuesday, March 7.   We will be serving pancakes!!  They can choose a cereal if they don't want the pancakes.  Obviously, your child doesn't have to eat breakfast at school this day if they don't want to, but this free event will be open to all!

Donuts with Dad

Creekside is holding Donuts with Dad events on Wednesday, March 8th and on Friday, March 10th. These events are free. Because we believe turn-out will be huge, we have two events:
·  K-2 students with dads - Wednesday, March 8th from 7:00-7:30 AM
·  3-4 students with dads - Friday, March 10th from 7:00-7:30 AM

However, dads that have children in more than one grade can choose the event that works the best for their schedule and attend one event with their children. Also, if one event works better than the other, dads can attend either event with their son or daughter.  The menu will be donuts and fruit along with fruit juice and coffee.

Children's Museum Science night
This amazing FREE event for our students and families is upcoming on Wednesday, March 15th from 5:30-8:00 PM. The program this year as voted and selected by our students and families is Beyond Spaceship Earth: Learn about life in space and discover what it is like on the International Space Station. Work with robotics and circuitry to solve challenges, all while experiencing a little bit of outer space here on Earth, after a free pizza dinner!

Superkids
Today we had our Super Smart lesson for unit 4 of The Superkids' Club.  It's going by so quickly!  Our Super Smart today was about the 5 Senses.  Ask your child to show you their mini book tonight and tell you what they learned about today!  Monday we will start unit 5--P!  I wonder who the next Supernoodle will be?!

Have a great weekend!

Happy Monday!

Progress Tests
We took the first progress test for The Superkids Club last week!  I have graded those and they went home in folders on Friday.  Overall we did great!  I am so proud of the boys and girls' hard work!  Keep it up!  If you have questions or concerns as you look those tests over, please let me know!

Book It calendars
Don't forget to send Book It reading calendar logs back in one day this week!  I will put the new March calendar in folders on Wednesday.  Can you believe it's already March?!

Play Permission Slip
On Monday, March 13, all the Kindergarten classes will be heading over to the high school in the morning to watch a Junie B. Jones play.  The cost of the field trip is $2 for the ticket, and your child will need to bring their lunch to school that day.  There is a purple permission slip in folders today with more info.  Please have the permission slip and money back no later than next Monday so we can attend this fun play!

Math
This week we will be making a graph based on a collection of items.  Our class will be collecting BOX TOPS!  Please keep sending those in!  We collect them anyway, so for the next week or two in math we will get double use out of them. :)

Read Across America Week
This week is Read Across America week! We will be reading Dr. Seuss stories each day, and will have a special snack to go with each one! Our morning work tubs and Friday Funday centers will all be Dr. Seuss themed as well! Stay tuned for pictures! It's going to be a fun week in Room 110!

March Snack Calendar
Don’t forget when sending in snacks, please send in something for the whole class.  Please don’t send in drinks, something that requires utensils or eat, or anything that needs refrigeration.  Items like cereal, crackers, fruit snacks, and granola bars are always popular snack choices.    If you could, please send in a package of small Dixie cups with the snack, if it is not individually wrapped. We have 24 students if you send in something individually wrapped.   You do not need to send in one thing per day, just one or two big boxes of something.

Happy Thursday!

Dessert Day
Tomorrow, Friday Feb. 24, is Dessert Day!!  Each student who purchases a school lunch will receive a mini ice cream sandwich!!

Art Club
I know we had a lot of students sign up for the Art Club that starts next week, but only 5 kids from our class were chosen. If your child was one of those five, there will be a note in his/her folder today. If you do not have a note, please be sure your child understands that he/she will not be staying after school next week for art club. Thanks!

Math
Today in math we worked on number combinations and numbers that add to 10. We had 10 beads on a pipe cleaner and moved them on different sides. Then we recorded a couple of our number sentences in our math journals. Your child is bringing their bead string home today. They will need it to do their homework-math home link paper! Then they can keep this at home.

Sight Words
The sight words for this week are: three, four, five.  There are no new sight words next week.  Instead, we will be using the next two weeks to review all the 3rd quarter sight words before report cards.  The grading period ends March 3rd!
Speaking of that, report cards for the 3rd 9 weeks will come home March 9th.

Writer's Workshop
This week in Writer's Workshop I introduced 5 new posters on our writing wall to help students remember the 5 parts of a great sentence.  They are:

  • capital letter at beginning of sentence
  • lower case letters throughout sentence
  • sight words spelled correctly
  • finger spaces between words
  • correct punctuation at end of sentence
As students are writing, if they remember all 5 on their own without my help, they have started getting a sticker on their notebook page.  I know a sticker doesn't sound like much, but they LOVE it!  It's great motivation for them to write their sentences correctly.  As you watch your child write at home, please help them remember the 5 parts of a great sentence.

Three day weekend!

Art to Remember Forms
Art to Remember forms are in folders today.  Art to Remember is a special project from our art teacher.  The boys and girls drew pictures, and if you want, you can order through this company to have that artwork put on mugs, bags, and more.  Here is more info from Mrs. Garrett:
The order forms are personalized for each student with a photo of their artwork on the form for parents to see.  They are due February 27 (it says that on the form) and parents can order online or send the form back in. If a student loses their form at some point, send them to me and I will give them another one.

NO SCHOOL MONDAY!
Remember, we don't have school on Monday due to President's Day.  Enjoy the three day weekend!

Kelso's Choices
This afternoon, Ms. Brown came in and did our monthly guidance lesson.  We reviewed Kelso's wheel of choices (how to solve small problems), read a story, and helped Lily the frog solve her problems!  The boys and girls were excellent listeners and helpers today!

Homework
I noticed some issues with the handwriting homework (the back page of the homework sheet) this week.  We have been working really hard at school on capital letters at the beginning of sentences, finger spaces between words, and appropriate ending marks at the end of the sentence.  Lots of kids were forgetting this on the homework!  Please reinforce this skill and remind your child to include these parts of the sentence when writing at home.  Thanks!

Tuesday
I will be out of the classroom from arrival-lunch on Tuesday at a meeting.  I will pick the class up from lunch and be with them the rest of the day.  Some were a little nervous when I told them this today.  Please remind them of this Tuesday morning.  We have an excellent sub so they will be in good hands.  Also, please remind them about "all star good behavior" for a sub.  Thanks!

Have a beautiful, sunny, three day weekend!

Happy Valentine's Day!

Kindergarten Art Club
If you are interested in your child staying after school Thursdays in March for art club, please see the form that went home in your child's folder yesterday. Please note--Mrs. Garrett is only taking 15 students, who will be chosen at random.  Just because you sign the form doesn't mean your child will get to participate in art club.  You will be notified if your child is picked.

Sight Words
This week we are working on the words: one, two.  Please add these to your practice at home!

Valentine's Day!
We had a lot of fun at our party today!  We opened our cards from each other, played Valentine BINGO, graphed candy hearts, had a fun snack, and made a craft. Your child is bringing their bag of cards home today.  They are also bringing home a present that we made for you!  Happy Valentine's Day! Thanks to all the parents that sent something in for today!  Check out our pictures below!

Assessments
I have been finishing up some of assessments this week for report cards.  I have noticed 2 areas of weakness as a whole class: subtraction (with numbers up to 5) and identifying 3-D shapes (cube, cone, cylinder, sphere).  Any extra help on these two things at home would be greatly appreciated!  We will keep working in the classroom too!

Superkids
This week in Superkids we have finished our B/R books, had a Super Smart lesson on mixing colors, and tomorrow we will start Unit 3-N!  Whew!  What a lot of learning!

Have a great week!
