November is already over?!

Cough drops at school
Our nurse Mrs. Robbins, is running low on cough drops, and they won't be restocked until January.  She asked as a friendly reminder:  FCSC policy allows students to carry cough drops in their backpacks.  If your child has a persistent cough, they can carry cough drops (that's the only medication allowed) in their book bags, and I can allow them to use them as needed in class.

Book It Calendars

Don't forget to return completed Book It calendars this week!  I sent home the December sheet today in folders.

Snack Calendar

I'll send home the December snack calendar tomorrow in folders.  Make sure to take a look at it and see if you are on the list for the month!

Coats and Shoes
Please continue working with your child on zipping his/her own coat and tying shoes.  These skills help your child become more independent and help children feel confident, and will help us when getting ready for recess.

Wreath contest--Cougars Against Cancer Relay for Life team
Teachers and staff participated in making Christmas wreaths which are on display in the commons area outside the office.  Also, check out the wreath album on Creekside's Facebook page and place your silent auction bid to win one of the wreaths!  Bidding goes through Saturday at 8pm.

Writer's Workshop
This week in Writer's Workshop we are working on writing friendly letters.  We will conclude this unit this week by writing letters to Santa!

Superkids
We have just one more day with Tic, Tac, and Toc (Super Smart Friday!) and then we will be meeting a new Superkid on Monday!  I feel like we are no sooner meeting these kids that we are on to another one!  Time is flying by!

Math
For math today we worked on some special Christmas projects.  The boys and girls had to place green strips in order from longest to shortest to make a Christmas tree.  We also got Santas ready to display.  Each day we will glue a cotton ball to Santa's beard...when the beard is full, Christmas Eve is here! I'm posting pictures of these below!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Wow!  I can't even begin to say thank you enough to all the parents who sent in donations, worked on fabulous costumes, helped prep the food, helped set up and serve the food, and helped supervise the feast and clean up at the end!  THANK YOU!  We couldn't have done it without you!

Below are some pictures from today.  HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

Pictures from a special present we made parents for Thanksgiving--check back packs today for your present!

Happy Friday!

It's hard to believe it's 70 degrees on November 18th!  I'll take it!  It sounds like the last 70 degree day we may have for a while!

Thanksgiving Feast
As a reminder, here are the highlights:
  • Please decide if your child is going to dress as a Pilgrim or a Native American Monday!  If you didn't send the costume in today, please send it in Monday morning!
  • Each child is asked to bring in one piece of fruit for our fruit salad, please send those in Monday morning if you didn't today!
  • If you signed up to donate something, and forgot today, please send in with your child Monday!  I think I have almost everything.
  • Thanks to everyone who signed up to help set up and serve the feast tomorrow!  You will be helping from 1:15-2:15.  Please come at 1pm, so you can put the biscuits in the oven and start setting up the cafeteria after 4th grade leaves lunch.
  • Thanks to everyone who signed up to help make the food with the children tomorrow!  Please arrive at 11 (or you can come at 10:30 and eat lunch with us)!  I will have a paper with instructions on it.  You will have from 11-12 to help the class make the food.

Homework
We will NOT have a homework sheet next week due to Thanksgiving break.  We will resume our normal homework nightly after Thanksgiving Break.

Thanksgiving Break
Don't forget that we are out of school on Wednesday, November 23rd-Friday November 25th for Thanksgiving Break.  I will see you all back here on Monday, November 28th!

Santa Book
Don't forget about the book order for our gifts from Santa!  I REALLY want to place this order Tuesday after school so I don't have to stress about getting them in on time.  Please send in your order Monday or Tuesday so I can place the order!  Thanks to everyone who has already sent yours in.  Remember--you can just send in $1 to get a book!

Superkids
Today we met our new Superkid...actually 3 new Superkids!  Today we met best friends Tic, Tac, and Toc!  Here are some questions to prompt discussion at home:
What are the new Superkids? Tic, Tac, Toc
What sound do their names start with? /t/
What do Tic, Tac, and Toc like to do? Jump on a trampoline, play trumpet, and they call themselves triple trouble.

Math
Here are some things we have been working on this week and will finish next week in math:

  • "Tricky" teen numbers
  • building hexagons and trapezoids from other shapes
  • building numbers with colored cubes
  • exploring and comparing weight and capacity
  • solving pattern block puzzles

Creekside Spirit Wear
I will send Creekside Spirit Wear order forms home on Monday.  All order forms are due by November 30th.

Have a great weekend!

Terrific Tuesday!

Picture Retakes
School picture retakes are tomorrow!  If you would like your child to get their picture retaken, please send in the original picture packet tomorrow and I will send them down to get their pictures retaken.  If your child was sick on picture day the first time, they will have their picture taken tomorrow.

Relay for Life Fundraiser
Creekside's Relay for Life team is selling cute animal erasers for $1 each morning this week. If your child would like to buy one (or more), please send the money in his/her green folder. Thanks!

Thanksgiving Mini Feast
I could still use a couple of volunteers for our Thanksgiving friendship feast on November 21. If you could help prepare food from 11-12 or set up/serving/clean up from 1:15-2:15, please let me know. Also, remember students will need to bring in fresh fruit (like banana, apple, orange, grapes, strawberries) to share in our salad, and they are allowed to dress as Native Americans or Pilgrims on this day.  Keep working on those costumes at home!

Santa Book Order
Today in your child's folder you will find special information about our Christmas party/present from Santa.  Please have this turned in by next Tuesday, November 22nd.  I know that sounds early!  I need time to place the order before Thanksgiving break, to make sure the books come in on time to be wrapped before our party.  Thanks in advance!

Have a great week!

Happy Veteran's Day!

Recess
Please don't forget as we turn to cooler and eventually cold (yuck!) weather, that Kindergarten goes to recess at 9:45am.  So even if it's predicted to be warmer in the afternoon, be sure to send your child with enough layers for outside recess in the morning.  We will go outside as much as possible weather permitting!  That means 25 degrees or above, as long as it's not snowing or raining.  I talked to the class this week about them eventually needing winter coats, gloves, hats, and scarves!

Writer's Workshop
This week in Writer's workshop we worked on making cards for people.  You have probably seen a lot of their practice cards coming home!  Next week we will start introducing the 6 traits of writing.

Progress Test
We took the 3rd progress test in Superkids this week, and I sent those home yesterday.  Please look over the results, and let me know if you have any questions or concerns.  We did a very good job!

Thanksgiving Feast
Thanks to everyone who signed up to donate something for our Mini Feast on the 21st!  I will send home a little piece of paper on Monday with the item you are to send in.  You can send in items anytime between the 15th and the 21st.  Also, don't forget all boys and girls are asked to bring in one piece of fruit by the 21st.  Don't forget to work on those Pilgrim and Native American costumes either!  Whew, that's a lot to remember!  Please let me know if you have any questions.

Sight Words
Can your child read all of the sight words for this 9 weeks? The words are: we, my, like, by, he, for, me, with, she.  If they cannot read all the words, keep practicing at home!!  I will be assessing this skill for the report card after Thanksgiving break.

Superkids
Wednesday we met a new Superkid!
Here are some questions to prompt discussion at home:
Who is the new Superkid? Icky (short for Ichabod)
What letter is first in Icky's name? I
What sound does i make? /i/
What does Icky like to do? Watch TV and make up new TV shows

Mrs. Deeter
On Wednesday Mrs. Deeter came for our monthly guidance lesson. We learned more about Kelso's wheel and the first two choices for conflict resolution: go to another game, and talk it out.

Muffins With Mom
Looks like everyone had fun at muffins with mom (or friends!) on Wednesday morning! If you couldn't make it this week, our next event is next Wednesday!

Have a great weekend!
