100th day of school!

Superkids
This week we will finish working in
the “Us” book and begin The Superkids Club
unit. The first letter/sound we will focus on
will be Bb /b/.
Math
We will learn about solid (3-D) shapes this
week.
COGAT
We will be taking the COGAT test this week. I hope to finish it all Tuesday and Wednesday, but we may need some time on Thursday as well.
Sight Words
This week we are working on the sight word: of. Please make sure to add this to your practice at home!
Valentine's Cards
Your child should have brought home a pink piece of paper yesterday in their folder with a class list. Please start working on those Valentine's Cards at home! You can send these in any time between now and February 14.

Today is the first Monday of school that we've had in a while!
Report Cards
Report cards for the 2nd 9 weeks came home already. Please look them over and let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Parents please complete the Parent Survey (on hot pink paper) and return with your child to their teacher. THANKS so much for all your help and support! I think I'm still missing about 8 forms.
100th day homework
The 100th day collections are coming in and look great! Once they bring them in, the students are having a chance to share their collection, and then we are displaying them in the hallway. If you have not completed this activity at home yet, please return to school by next Thursday!
Kindergarten Registration
Calling all future Kindergarteners! Kindergarten Registration for incoming Kindergarteners for the 2018-2019 school year is March 8th, from 4-7pm. If you have a student or know any parents who will have Kindergarten students next school year, please BOTH call the office to get added to the list, and plan to attend registration to get your child signed up for school next year! Please help spread the word!
PE tomorrow
Tomorrow in PE we get to experience something special! Mrs. Sherry is welcoming Nine 13 Sports to Creekside! They are bringing stationary bikes that all students will get to try out this week during their PE time. Don't forget that they should wear tennis shoes (like every week on PE day) but also comfy clothes tomorrow so they can ride the bikes.
100th day pizza party
Due to the snow day, the 100th day of school will be this Friday! Our pizza party for counting to 100 will be on Monday, January 29th. Everyone in our class reached the goal! :)
Superkids Progress Reports
Today in your child's folder you will find the progress test we finished this week for the Frits and Ettabetta unit. As a class, we did a great job! Most students only missed 1 or 2 questions. I was so proud! Please look these over at home and let me know if you have any questions.
COGAT test
Tomorrow we will be taking the practice COGAT test for high ability placement. This practice test only has a few questions for each type of question on the test, and shouldn't take too long to finish. This is to get us ready for the real COGAT test that we will take Tuesday-Thursday of next week. Please refer to the letter Dr. Heiden sent home a couple weeks ago for the timeline of this process.
Superkids
Today we started unit 13 in Superkids: Us! This unit is all about the letter U and all of the Superkids coming together. It's the last unit in Meet the Superkids. After it is over, we will start the second half of the series, called The Superkids Club. In the club, we will introduce the rest of the letters through the activities that the Superkids do together in their club.
Solid Shape Museum
Today in math we learned about the 3-D shapes: cube, cylinder, cone, rectangular prism, and sphere. For homework today, the math paper says to find these shapes around the house. However, your child does not need to bring any of them to school. Thanks!
Blood Drive
Papers went home if you are interested in participating in the blood drive here at Creekside in a few weeks. Check the flyer for more details if you are interested.

This week I updated the online portal to reflect unit 13 that we are starting today! I noticed that now that we are on the last unit for Meet The Superkids, there are 2 new games, 1 new story, and 1 new student book story! If your child hasn't been on Superkids online at home in a while, now would be a great time to jump on again during their "screen time"!

Welcome back!
I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and winter break! Welcome back into the 2nd semester of Kindergarten! It's going by so quickly! Isn't this weather crazy! 60 and rainy one day, icy the next! Welcome to winter in Indiana!

Yearbook orders went home earlier this week. If you want to purchase a yearbook, the order form and money are due back to school by January 26.

Superkids
Tuesday we met our last Superkid! We were very excited! After we finish this unit, all the Superkids will join together to form the Superkids club, and we will learn about the club the rest of the year. Here are some questions to prompt discussion at home today:

What does Hot Rod like to do? race cars, build racecars
What is his car's name? The Fast Cat
Winter Weather, Recess, and Snow Boots
Winter is finally here! And with that, we see a lot of days of indoor recess due to extreme cold and/or a snow covered playground. On the days that the temperature (windchill included) is 25 or above, we will be going out as long as the blacktop is free of snow and ice. Luckily we have gotten to go out every day this week so far! If your child wears snow boots to school, it is a good idea to send in a regular pair of tennis shoes to change into while at school. This not only ensures they have proper shoes for PE on Tuesdays, but the boots can also be hard to walk in all day for some kiddos. Thanks for your help with this.

January book order
The January Scholastic order went home today. If you are interesteing in purchasing, the order deadline is January 26th.

Just a friendly reminder to leave homework sheets in folders daily. I do check the handwriting portion on the back each morning. Also, please make sure to complete the fluency builder each Wednesday evening and return on Thursday so I can complete it with the students as well. I was missing multiple this morning. When the worksheet in the RED folder has a sentence to write, please have your child sound out the words and write the sentence. Don't forget to remind them of the period at the end!
