November Snack Calendar
The November snack calendar is in folders today.  Please make sure to check it out to see if you have a turn this month!

Walk A Thon Rewards
Don't forget!  If your child raised enough money for Walk A Thon, the hat day and PJ day rewards have been set, so be sure to mark your calendars:
  • Tuesday, November 1--hat day TOMORROW!
  • Wednesday, November 2--PJ day WEDNESDAY!

Book It
I got the first October book it calendars sent back in today!  Way to go!  As you finish those up, be sure to send them in.  Anyone who returns with any boxes colored in will get the free pizza certificate sent home, and a sticker on our reading chart.  I will staple the pizza hut certificate to the calendar and send it back home.  The big celebration in class will be getting the sticker on the book it chart.  All students who have at least 5 of the 6 stickers at the end of the program (end of March) will be invited to a special party with me!  Remember, this isn't mandatory, but more to promote a love of reading at home!  I'll send the November calendar home tomorrow so you can start filling it in!

Have a great week!

Happy Friday!

Happy Halloween!
Thanks to everyone who attended our Kindergarten Halloween Program last night!  The class did such a great job reciting our songs, poems, and knock-knock jokes.  I am very proud of them!

Superkids
Today we finished up our Sal unit with our Super Smart Play Ball.  Look for the mini books in folders today, and ask your child to tell you about what balls can be used to play different sports.  Monday we will meet our next Superkid!

Homework
How did your child do reading Oswald Adds in their R.E.D. folder this week?  Your child should be able to really read the words in this book. If they struggled, keep working on blending sounds together.  We will keep working on it in reading groups too.  Next week, students will also be getting their first fluency builder page to read. I will send directions with the page, so please be sure to read and follow directions. This will come home on Wednesday, and be due on Thursday.

Math
Here are the skills we will be working on next week:
  • numbers 0-10
  • playing Roll and Record
  • ordering numbers
  • using attribute blocks
  • playing some shape games
  • making a favorite colors graph.

Have a great weekend!

Tuesday!

Halloween Program
Don't forget our Kindergarten Halloween program is this Thursday from 6-7pm.  The invitation was sent home in green folders before Fall Break, and I will send a reminder home Thursday.  The boys and girls have been working hard learning songs, poems, and jokes.  It will be a fun night for them to show off their talents (in costume, of course).  Kindergartners should come dressed in their Halloween costume and report to their classroom at 6:00.  Parents and guests may then proceed to the gym to find a seat.  The students will be parading into the gym to pose for pictures, and then will be entertaining you with a selection of Halloween songs, poems, and jokes!  You may pick up your child from his/her classroom at the conclusion of the program.  Costumes with blood, weapons, and gore are discouraged.

Everyday Math
Here are the skills we have been (or will be) working on in math this week:
  • Number writing
  • Describing and understanding position words
  • Representing numbers in different ways
  • Reading numbers and counting 1-1 by playing Spin a Number
  • Ordering numbers 0-10
  • Representing quantities with numerals

Superkids
Thursday we met a new Superkid...Sal!  Here are some questions to prompt discussion at home!
Who is the Superkid? Sal
What is the first letter in his name? S
What sound does S make? /s/
What does Sal like to do? Play sports--skateboard, swim, stickball, ect.

Writer's Workshop
We are really going to start working hard in Writer's Workshop!  We are going to have a major focus on sounding out words and writing the sounds that we hear, to match what we are drawing in our notebooks.  When practicing this at home, PLEASE do not tell your child the spelling of the words.  Have them work out the word, and write down all the sounds they hear (the words will look a little silly to you!) The silent letters and tricks will come later.  But sounding out the words "the kid-way" is a very important step in your child's reading and writing development.  Thanks for your help with this!

Wednesday Mrs. Deeter came and did her monthly guidance lesson! We learned about big problems and small problems.

This morning Mrs. Bockover asked to come in to our classroom and recorded morning announcements! These will be shown school wide Monday morning. We were all very excited about being "tv celebrities"!

Mrs. Bockover surprised all of us at the end of announcements! She awarded our class the specials trophy "on air" for the first 9 weeks! This means that we had the best score (1-5 each day in specials based on behavior and effort) out of everyone when all the scores were added up! Not just in kindergarten, but the best score in the entire school! They were very excited to learn they even beat "the big kids"! Way to go Room 110! Keep up the good work!

Have a great weekend!

Superkids
We are finishing up Doc's unit this week.  Tomorrow will be our read a loud lesson, Wednesday we will do the Super Smart lesson, and Thursday, we will meet our next Superkid!  I wonder who it will be?  We are moving right along through these units!  If you haven't checked out the online portal at home, be sure to add that to the technology your child may be doing at home.  Right now, only the stories are open, but starting with the next unit, there will be games at home.

Sight Words
Starting tonight on the homework sheet, you will see the 2nd 9 weeks sight words.  Please add all these to your practice.  This week, we are focusing on the words: we, my, like.

Have a great week!
