Happy Mini Feast day!

Wow!  I can't even begin to say thank you enough to all the parents who sent in donations, worked on fabulous costumes, helped prep the food, helped set up and serve the food, and helped supervise the feast and clean up at the end!  THANK YOU!  We couldn't have done it without you!

Below are some pictures from today.  HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving Week!  I hope you have a wonderful week with good food and time spent with loved ones!  Thanks for all you do at home to make this a successful first year of school for your child.  I am thankful for all of you!

Did you see the beautiful rainbow last week!  Caiden found it!

#CSREADS--book 2!
I know many of you read our first #CSREADS book  Charlotte's Web.
I have heard many positive comments from parents and had many great conversations with students!  Our 2nd #CSREADS book is...Mr. Popper's Penguins by Richard & Florence Atwater!!

Thanksgiving Feast
As a reminder, here are the highlights:
  • Please decide if your child is going to dress as a Pilgrim or an Indian tomorrow!  If you didn't send the costume in today, please send it in tomorrow morning!
  • Each child is asked to bring in one piece of fruit for our fruit salad, please send those in tomorrow morning if you didn't today!
  • If you signed up to donate something, and forgot today, please send in with your child tomorrow!  I think I have almost everything.
  • Thanks to everyone who signed up to help set up and serve the feast tomorrow!  You will be helping from 1:15-2:15.  Please come at 1pm, so you can put the biscuits in the oven and start setting up the cafeteria after 4th grade leaves lunch.
  • Thanks to everyone who signed up to help make the food with the children tomorrow!  Please arrive at 11 (or you can come at 10:30 and eat lunch with us)!  I will have a paper with instructions on it.  You will have from 11-12 to help the class make the food.

Homework
Reminder--We will NOT have a homework sheet this week due to Thanksgiving break.  We will resume our normal homework nightly after Thanksgiving Break.

Thanksgiving Break
Don't forget that we are out of school on Wednesday, November 25th-Friday November 27th for Thanksgiving Break.  I will see you all back here on Monday, November 30th!

PTO Christmas Ornament Painting
The PTO would like to invite your family to a fun evening of painting special gifts for your loved ones or creating new ornamemts for your tree at home. Here are the details:
Where: Creekside Cafeteria
When: Friday, December 4 from 6:00-8:30
(open house style so join us anytime during the event and leave when you are finished)
Cost: $10 per ornament painted - no limit
(PTO will receive a portion of sales)
How it works: UPaint Pottery from Greenwood will be at Creekside with a wide variety of ornaments to paint. Choose and pay for as many as you'd like and then get busy painting. (Don't forget about all the special people in your life that love gifts made by your kids.) When you are finished, UPaint Pottery will take your creations back to their studio to glaze and fire in their kilns. Finished masterpieces will be returned to the school safely packaged and sent home with your child before Christmas break.

Have a great week!  Happy Thanksgiving!!

Rainy Day!

Mrs. Vidal
Yesterday Mrs. Vidal came to do her monthly guidance lesson.  This month the topic was: anger.  Mrs. Vidal read a story, the class made a list of things we could do to help us calm down when we are angry, and then the students drew pictures of one thing they could do at home and at school.  Ask your child to tell you what they learned!

Math
We finished up Unit 3 last week and began Unit 4 Monday.  So far this week we have:

  •  played Top It (think of the old card game War)
  • counted by 10s
  • made patterns with a pattern block template
There are just a small number of children who are still unable to count to 100 by themselves.  Keep practicing so that your child can come to our pizza party in January!  Remember, in order to qualify, your child must be able to count to 100 without help, and without skipping numbers by the 100th day of school.  Today is Day 69.  Only 31 days to go before our 100th day celebration!

Santa Book
Don't forget about the book order for our gifts from Santa!  I REALLY want to place this order Friday after school so I don't have to stress about getting them in on time.  Please send in your order tomorrow or Friday so I can place the order!  Thanks to everyone who has already sent yours in.  Remember--you can just send in $1 to get a book!

Thanksgiving Feast
As a reminder, here are the highlights:
  • Please decide if your child is going to dress as a Pilgrim or an Indian on the 24th, and start getting those costumes together!
  • Each child is asked to bring in one piece of fruit for our fruit salad, please don't send those in until the 23rd or 24th.
  • If you signed up to donate something, you should have received a yellow paper in your child's folder on Monday.  Those donations are due by the 23rd.

Spirit Wear Orders
REMINDER--Creekside Spirit Wear orders due Monday!! If you'd like to order, just complete the form and send it back with a check made out to Creekside PTO by next Monday! This is not a fundraiser for our PTO so they have kept the prices as low as possible so many families can purchase Creekside Cougars spirit wear.

Have a great day!

At least it's not snowing!

I don't know about you, but I'm loving these 60 degree days in mid November!  I don't know about the rain the next couple of days, but at least it's not snow!  I saw on the news this morning that a year ago today, we had our first snowfall, getting 2.5 inches!  NO thanks!

Sight Words

Can your child read all of the sight words for this 9 weeks? The words are: we, my, like, by, he, for, me, with, she.  If they cannot read all the words, keep practicing at home!!  I will be assessing this skill for the report card after Thanksgiving break.

Homework--Next Week

We will have a regular homework sheet this week with homework Monday-Thursday night.  We will NOT have a homework sheet next week due to Thanksgiving break.  We will resume our normal homework nightly after Thanksgiving Break.

Superkids

Tomorrow we meet our next Superkid!  I wonder who it will be?!  Today we did our Super Smart lesson, and read a non-fiction interactive story about insects.  Then we made mini-books to practice sequencing information.  Ask your child tonight to tell you what they learned!

Thanksgiving Break:
Don't forget that we are out of school on Wednesday, November 25-Friday November 27 for Thanksgiving.  I will see you all back here on Monday, November 30!

Math

Today in math we practiced finding numbers on a life size number line, and counting up and back from those numbers.

Have a great week!

TGIF!

Sight Words
Please keep reviewing sight words for the 2nd 9 weeks at home.  The next couple of weeks we will be reviewing all the sight words we have learned so far this year.  Then I will be assessing 2nd 9 week words.  If you need another master list of the words, please let me know.

Superkids
Today we did our Read Aloud lesson for Icky.  The story was called Icky's What Ifs.  Ask your child to tell you what Icky was worried about as he was getting ready for his first sleep over.  Monday we will do our non fiction Super Smart lesson for Icky, and Tuesday we will meet our next Superkid.  It feels like we are flying though the Superkids!  Soon we will have met all the Superkids, and they will form a club.

Superkids Progress Test
Wednesday in computer lab we took our latest progress test for Superkids.  I have those results recorded, and those tests are coming home today.  As always, please look them over and let me know if you have any questions!

Art Portfolios
Thanks for returning the art porfolios today!  I recieved almost all of them!  If you forgot to return it today, please send these back in on Monday so I can return them to the art room for future use.

Thanksgiving Feast
Thanks to everyone who signed up to donate something for our Mini Feast on the 24th!  I will send home a little yellow piece of paper on Monday with the item you are to send in.  You can send in items anytime between the 17th and the 23rd.  Also, don't forget all boys and girls are asked to bring in one piece of fruit by the 23rd.  Don't forget to work on those Pilgrim and Native American costumes either!  Whew, that's a lot to remember!  Please let me know if you have any questions.

Have a great weekend!  See you Monday!

Happy Wednesday!

Everyday Math
Here are the skills we have been working on in math over the past couple of weeks.

  • Solving problems with manipulatives using the terms add, subtract, more, and less
  • Review of graphing dice rolls
  • Using the basic terms of probability to describe events (likely, certain, impossible)
  • Creating shape art using pattern block templates (review)
  • Using basic terms of probablility to make predictions
  • Reviewing the pan balance
  • Counting objects using one-to-one correspondence, adding and subtracting within a group of 10 (Learned Train Games)

Recess
It was 42 degrees when we went out for recess this morning.  A few of the children didn't have a coat at all, or just a thin sweatshirt.  There were a lot of kiddos complaining of cold hands and cold ears.  Please send in heavier coats, gloves, and hats so your little one will be comfortable outside.  We will go outside all winter as long as it is above 25 degrees (windchill included) and the playground is free of snow.

Art Portfolios
Mrs. Garrett is going to send home art portolios either tomorrow or next Thursday with a note inside asking you to keep the artwork, but return the empty portfolio so they can fill it again with more work.  Please make sure to return the portfolio part so they can be returned to the art room for future use.

Christmas Book Order
Don't forget to return the Christmas book order form!  You still have a while--they aren't due until the 20th.  Please either fill out the order form, or send in $1 so each child will get a book from Santa at our Holiday Party.  Thanks!

  • Thanks to everyone who signed up to help set up and serve the feast on the 24th!  You will be helping from 1:15-2:15.  If you want to come about 1, I can show you what to do, and send you to the cafeteria.
  • I am still looking for a couple more people to help the class make the food for the feast from 11-12 on the 24th, if you are willing and able, please let me know.

Box Tops
Our total collected for Creekside for October was 3,266 Box Tops, worth $326.60.  Our grand total for the year so far is $1,121.  Our school has a $4,800 goal for the year, so please keep sending in Box Tops (and Campbells labels, Coke points, Tyson A+ points, Sunbeam bread upc's, and pop can tabs).

In your child's folder today you will find the movie night form for the November 20th movie.  Please fill it out and return if you are interested in your child attending this movie night.

Creekside Spirit Wear Forms
Also in your child's folder today you will find a pink paper with this year's Creekside/Franklin spirit wear order form on it.  No obligation to order, but they do make great gifts.  All orders will be back in before Christmas.  See the form for more details.

Thanksgiving Turkeys
Thanks for the help with this fun project this week!  I think all the turkeys are successfully camouflaged so they won't get eaten for Thanksgiving dinner!

Beautiful Start to November!

I hope you all had a great Halloween weekend!  The weather is beautiful to start November this week!  I don't know about you, but I wouldn't mind having this stick around for a while!

Thanksgiving Mini-Feast
Each year Kindergarten celebrates Thanksgiving by having a mini-feast together in the cafeteria.  Be on the lookout in your child's folder THIS WEEK for information on when the feast will take place, what the children will need to bring in, and how you can help!

Creekside DQ Night
Don't forget you can Dine to Donate to Creekside's PTO at Dairy Queen tonight.  From 5:00-8:00pm a portion of all sales will go to help Creekside purchase a Creekside Cougar mascot!  No flyer necessary, just show up!  Who can say no to ice cream?!

Muffins with Mom
I hope to see many of you tomorrow morning in the Creekside gym for our second annual Muffins with Mom.  Moms of K-2 students can come enjoy muffins, juice and coffee with your little ones from 7:00-7:30 am.

Superkids
Today we finished working in our Lily workbook.  Be on the lookout for that to come home later this week.  Tomorrow we will do our Read Aloud lesson and Thursday will be our non-fiction Super Smart lesson.  Friday we meet the next Superkid!  I wonder who it will be?!
