Happy Tuesday!

Superkids
This week we began our second half of Superkids!  The "Superkids Club" books continue right where we left off with "Meet the Superkids."  We are still learning about new letters and sounds, how to correctly write each letter, and how to blend the sounds into words.  However, these units will be much more rigorous and the student books contain more pages and activities for the children to complete.

Math
Here are the skills we will be working on in math:

  • Using tally marks to represent class data, counting tally marks by 5's
  • Using objects to represent numbers and make exchanges (The class learned the Raft Game which is an introduction to exchanging pennies for nickels.)
  • Reviewing estimating
  • Practicing and comparing measuring with standard and non-standard units of measurement
  • Choosing tools to fit measuring tasks (ruler, yard stick, measuring tape)
  • Constructing a class bar graph
  • Drawing conclusions and answering questions based on data from bar graphs
  • Choosing blocks based on attributes (Attribute Spinner Game)
  • Identifying and locating numbers on the 100 number grid

High Ability Test
The High Ability practice test and test have been taking up a lot of our time.  Last week we finished the practice test.  This week we are doing 3 tests every day from Monday-Wednesday. They have been doing a great job and I am very proud of this class for working so hard!

100 Pizza Party
Friday afternoon, Kindergarten classes will meet in the cafeteria to celebrate all of the kiddos who were able to count to 100 by the 100th day of school.  We will be dining on pizza from Chicago's!

Sight Words

Our new sight words for this week are: are, that, do.  Please add these to your practice at home!

Valentine's Party
Our party/centers will be Friday, February 12 from 1:00-2:00.  Part of the party will include the children opening Valentine cards from their friends.  A class list will be sent home later. Please use this list to allow your child to address 21 cards to their friends.  Please include everyone on the list so that feelings are not hurt.  As part of handwriting practice, your child should be the one writing their friends' names as well as their own on each Valentine.  All cards are due Thursday, February 11.    Thank you!

Yearbook Orders
Yearbook orders are due this Friday.  If you plan to order a yearbook, you can make a check out to Inter-State Studios for $15. Yearbooks can also be ordered online at https://inter-state.com/Yearbook and use the order code 04564CG.

Have a great afternoon!
