Happy Friday!

If you are interested in your child participating in this contest, please have them bring their decorated pumpkin October 27th or 28th.  They need to turn it in to Mrs. Garrett in the art room one of those two mornings.  The pumpkins will be on display for voting those few days.  No carved pumpkins!  There will be prizes for scariest, most creative, and funniest.  Pumpkins will be broght home on Friday the 28th.

Kindergarten Halloween Program
Don't forget about our Halloween Program next Thursday, the 27th.  Please drop your child off in the classroom at 6pm, then proceed to the gym to get a good seat!  The costume parade will start about 6:10, then the Kindergarten classes will be on the stage singing songs, reciting poems, and telling knock knock jokes.  All family members welcome to come watch!

Superkids
Thursday we met a new Superkid...Sal!  Here are some questions to prompt discussion at home!
Who is the Superkid? Sal
What is the first letter in his name? S
What sound does S make? /s/
What does Sal like to do? Play sports--skateboard, swim, stickball, ect.

Writer's Workshop
We are really going to start working hard in Writer's Workshop!  We are going to have a major focus on sounding out words and writing the sounds that we hear, to match what we are drawing in our notebooks.  When practicing this at home, PLEASE do not tell your child the spelling of the words.  Have them work out the word, and write down all the sounds they hear (the words will look a little silly to you!) The silent letters and tricks will come later.  But sounding out the words "the kid-way" is a very important step in your child's reading and writing development.  Thanks for your help with this!

Wednesday Mrs. Deeter came and did her monthly guidance lesson! We learned about big problems and small problems.

This morning Mrs. Bockover asked to come in to our classroom and recorded morning announcements! These will be shown school wide Monday morning. We were all very excited about being "tv celebrities"!

Mrs. Bockover surprised all of us at the end of announcements! She awarded our class the specials trophy "on air" for the first 9 weeks! This means that we had the best score (1-5 each day in specials based on behavior and effort) out of everyone when all the scores were added up! Not just in kindergarten, but the best score in the entire school! They were very excited to learn they even beat "the big kids"! Way to go Room 110! Keep up the good work!

Have a great weekend!
